I can download the files, but when I try to load them into the program I have, it tells me they aren't compatible with my file.

could be your version of MMD.
Here's a tutorial on how to use MMD just in case (comes in two parts).

If this dosen't help you, try getting a different version of MMD. (Multi Model edition is the best bet)
